Our Mission

Our mission is to improve animal lives through rescue, education and adoption. We will provide compassionate animal care and comfort as we connect animals with loving forever homes.

Every Paw Matters.

The Grant County Humane Society has had quite a journey. Since the early 1970s we have been taking in "at-large" dogs, housing them until they are claimed by their owners or keeping them and finding them FUREVER homes.

In 2014 we moved with Lancaster Veterinary Clinic into Lancaster WI and since then, have been also taking surrendered animals and cats, birds, guinea pigs, and more to help these animals and their people. We became a not for profit at that time and have been growing ever since.

In 2023 a new building was purchased in Platteville WI and once renovations are complete GCHS will move into it's new, bigger location.

Since 2014 the GCHS has rehomed over 2000 animals with more finding loving homes every day.

Cari Schaffer

Veterinarian at Lancaster Veterinary Clinic. I have been practicing for almost 25 years and have always seen the need for a humane society in Grant County. I am so excited to be at the beginning of this journey towards something amazing. I have 2 GCHS cats and 2 dogs. They are the best furry family members and I am so grateful they came to us. ]

Megan Wilson

I joined the board shortly after moving to the area to work as a Certified Veterinary Technician at Lancaster Veterinary Clinic. Working with the Humane Society animals while housed in the same building, I wanted to do more to ensure they got the best chance they could. My goal is to continue to be the voice for them as we move into our own building and improve on the foundations we already have.

Adoption Coordinator

Missy Okey

I joined the GCHS Board in 2017 with intentions of helping in the photography department and helping the animals showcase their beauty! Fast foward to becoming the adoption coordinator after working for the Lancaster Vet Clinic (where they are currently housed) I strive to find the perfect homes for all of our babies! My future hope is to get all settled in our facility doing what we are currently doing, just on a larger scale.

Emily Olson

I live in Lancaster with my husband Casey and daughter Peyton, together we have two corgis Chopper and Brody, as well as a cat Sophie. I have a bachelors degree in dairy science and an associates degree in veterinary technology. I currently work full time as a veterinary technician and love everything about it. I decided to join the GCHS board to help be an advocate for the animals in our community. There is a huge need for the humane society in Grant County and I wanted to do what I could to help make it a great place.

Darren Wilson

I joined the GCHS Board in 2023, but have been volunteering with them for about 5 years. My wife and I have an eclectic family of 3 kids, dogs, cats and a bearded dragon, some of them even GCHS alumni. I'm looking forward to the continued efforts of opening and utilizing our new building. I believe we can make a real difference for community.

Molly Tillmann-Kirschbaum

I've known I wanted to work with animals from a very young age. I'm a professional caretaker/aquarist and I wanted to do more with my knowledge and help animals in need. Being in the GCHS has helped me fulfill that. I hope to continue to be able to help stray animals and get them into new and loving forever homes. With the new building we will be able to help more than ever.

Hannah Haas

I joined GCHS in 2021 to help animals find their forever homes and as a way to give back to my community. My husband and I have three animals, 2 cats, Shadow and Xena (Xena is a GCHS Alum), and one dog, Lenny (also a GCHS Alum). I have always had a love for animals and am excited to be on the board to help give those animals a voice. Many people ask me why I feel so much towards animals and I always say "they don't have a voice, so we need to help make them heard". With the work the Humane Society does, we can be their advocates. I am excited to get our new building up and running so we can do our work on a larger level.
